COURSE NOTES |

1.
SAFETY: Please
review and thoroughly understand the safety
regulations for the
Manufacturing Center, Williston 001. 2. This is a laboratory course. If you are absent you must get the
materials and information you missed from your LAB PARTNERS. There
are multiple sections. If you wish to
see the materials you missed you may attend another section, but you will NOT
be credited for attending. 3. This course is broken into two 6-week
components: SolidWorks, and Manufacturing.
After 6 weeks you will rotate to a new section. All students will receive a composite grade
from these components. The rotation
days and faculty will be announced as the switch date approaches. 4. If you arrive to class or lab and do not see
the electronic attendance sheet I use, it means you arrived late. You will be marked absent unless you stay
at the end of the session and have me change the spreadsheet to mark you as
late, rather than absent. 5. To

NOTES |

1.
Always have at the
ready your notebook. I recommend a cheapy spiral graph paper notebook from
Staples ($0.99) 2.
A calculator is
required. 3.
Please always
observe all safety regulations. 4.
Be sure to view
the welding video linked on the GMAW tensile test lab activity. You must use either FireFox or Internet
Explorer to view the video. Chrome
will not work. 5.
Please have
your safety glasses with you at all times. Each time I lend you a pair, or
ask you to put them on, reduces your course participation grade. I will not be the “safety glasses cop”: you
will simply receive a lower lab grade. 6.
You are
responsible for a thorough clean-up after using any equipment. 7.
There are three
“shut-down” emergency buttons on the walls of the lab. If you see someone in trouble on a machine
hit the EMERGENCY STOP button. This
will stop the spindles from turning.
They are a no-harm-no-foul button. |
LAB GRADING CRITERIA It is my hope that you will find the
laboratory projects beneficial in your academic and professional
efforts. Much of the grade for the
course is taken from these activities.
It is my experience that students fall somewhere within three
categories in the laboratory:
